An automatic injection pen with grips or dampers for aligning a syringe that is capable of administering medicaments of different viscosities is described. The pen provides stability to the syringe to reduce breakages and can be used for injecting multiple medicaments of different consistencies. The pen includes a front housing (101) and a rear housing (100), the front housing holding a syringe (180) by means of two dampers, flanges or lips (192, 196) than hold the rim of the ampoule (181) of the syringe. The syringe is capable of holding medicaments, e.g. insulin, of different viscosities. The rear housing includes a ram (141) for moving the syringe into a forward position for injection, and for pressing the plunger of the syringe.
