A skin sample culture apparatus is disclosed, which uses a culture medium to maintain the viability of the sample and comprises means for maintaining the sample under tension. In an embodiment the apparatus (171) has a base (173), a securing member (175) and a tensioner cap (177). The skin sample (183) is placed between the base and securing member. Through holes (187) in the securing member are aligned with holes (174) in the base, and screws or other suitable fixings are tightened to secure the skin sample in position.
