The invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising a scyllo- inositol of formula Ia or Ib, wherein one or more hydroxyl groups are replaced with substituents selected from the groups consisting of: alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, alkoxy, halogen, amino, -PO3H2, thio and sulfate. The use of these compositions in preventing or treating a macular degeneration-related disorder are also disclosed.Linvention porte sur des compositions pharmaceutiques comprenant un scyllo-inositol de formule Ia ou Ib, un ou plusieurs groupes hydroxyles étant remplacés par des substituants choisis dans le groupe constitué par : alkyle, alcényle, alcynyle, alcoxy, halogène, amino, -PO3H2, thio et sulfate. Linvention porte également sur lutilisation de ces compositions dans la prévention ou le traitement dun trouble lié à la dégénérescence maculaire.
