PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation support device capable of allowing a user to enjoy the convenience of a portable terminal device by moving the portable terminal device to a position where the user can easily operate the portable terminal device when the user wants to operate the device.SOLUTION: The operation support device includes: a robot arm 30 for holding a portable telephone 20 to be used by a user a radio communication unit for receiving event information indicating the generation of an event such as the incoming of a call and the incoming of a mail by a radio signal and an arm control unit for controlling the action of the robot arm 30. The arm control unit operates the robot arm 30 in accordance with the event information from the portable terminal 20 and allows the portable telephone 20 to be positioned within the operation range of the user from a standby position. The robot arm 30 includes: a base link 31 a base end drive part 32 for axially turning the base link 31 a holding part 36 for holding the portable telephone 20 an intermediate link 34 for moving the holding part 36 and an intermediate joint part 33 for turning the intermediate link 34.
