The invention relates to a laser handpiece comprising a hollow elongate shaft (1) having, on a first end, a tapered guiding piece (1a) comprising a bore, the diameter of said tapered guiding piece corresponding essentially to the outer diameter of a fibre optical waveguide that is to be introduced through the laser handpiece, and a clamping device (2) for the fibre optical waveguide provided with an enveloping is arranged on the second end that is counter to the first end. The shaft (1) of the laser handpiece is formed in one piece from a metal pipe together with the guiding piece (1a), the inner diameter thereof being greater than the outer diameter of the enveloped fibre optical waveguide. The steel pipe for forming the guiding piece is deformed on the first end by means of non-cutting deformation in a cone-shaped manner such that the inner diameter of the guiding piece is essentially smaller than the outer diameter of the fibre optical waveguide.
