The instrument includes an instrument body / handle and an interface assembly for receiving a removable workpiece. The body / handle includes a signal generation assembly with an electrical connection to the instrument body interface. The signal generation assembly is controlled by a microprocessor and generates a signal adapted to control and operate a workpiece mounted on the instrument. A plurality of workpieces are included that are individually adapted to treat irregular spots of various spots of skin. The instrument can further include a system for identifying the mounted workpiece to generate an appropriate actuation signal and provide it to the mounted workpiece.
