597534 Disclosed herein is the use of a pharmaceutical composition in unit dosage form for the preparation of a medicament for the treatment of pain or inflammation in a subject, wherein the unit dosage form is a tablet comprising a core and two or more layers, in which: the core comprises aspirin or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, a first layer surrounds the core and has a coating substantially insoluble in aqueous medium at a pH below 3.5 and at a temperature of 37 °C and at least one second layer comprises omeprazole or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, that is immediately soluble when the dosage form is placed in an aqueous medium, independent of pH, in an amount effective to raise the gastric pH of the patient to at least 3.5 upon administration of one or more unit dosage forms, said second layer surrounding the coating of the first layer, wherein said treatment is to be continued for a period of at least 14 days, and wherein said treatment reduces the incidence of dyspepsia associated symptoms in said subject.
