An ocular benefit composition comprises at least 5 wt.% of one or more lipid or lipid derived compounds. A method and use whereby an ocular benefit agent is delivered to the surface of the eye by applying the composition to a lid margin of the eye are also disclosed. A device for applying the composition comprises an applicator and the ocular benefit composition. The lipid or lipid-derived compounds are typically waxes, fats, and oils. Suitable waxes may be lanolin, beeswax, jojoba wax, candelilla wax, carnauba wax, and paraffin wax. Useful oils may comprise jojoba seed oil, apricot kernel oil, castor seed oil, argan kernel oil, avocado oil, sweet almond oil, hydrogenated castor oil, and coconut oil. Cocoa butter and shea butter represent suitable fats. Examples of lipid-derived compounds may include long chain fatty alcohols like octyldodecanol. The composition is preferably in solid form with a melting point of ≥45ºC.
