PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous body having a surface opening ratio and a pore diameter restricted to specified ranges, and to provide a porous body that can be advantageously used as a separation membrane or an adsorbent such as a blood component separation membrane of an artificial kidney or the like, since the porous body has an ultrafine and homogeneous porous structure with a pore diameter that can be controlled to a range from the order of nanometers to the order of micrometers.SOLUTION: The porous body essentially comprises polymethyl methacrylate, and has continuous pores with a pore diameter of 0.001 &mum or more and 500 &mum or less of the continuous pores and an opening ratio on at least one surface of 10% to 80%.
