PURPOSE: A composition containing chondrocytes isolated from xiphisternum and a cell therapeutic agent are provided to excellently treat chondropathy. CONSTITUTION: A composition for promoting cartilage regeneration or treating chondropathy contains chondrocytes derived from xiphisternum. A cell therapeutic agent contains the composition. An artificial cartilage contains the xiphisternum-derived chondrocytes. The artificial cartilage is prepared by culturing the chondrocytes in a differentiation medium to form cartilage which is differentiated in a sheet form.
