The heart valve assembly has a wire frame that includes a fixed portion, a generally cylindrical valve support portion, and a neck portion extending between the fixed portion and the valve support portion. The wire frame includes a plurality of supports that extend radially outward in an annular manner around the upper end of the valve support, and the fixed portion has an annular flange that extends in the radial direction so that a natural ring can be provided when the heart valve is deployed. An annular space for storage or retention is defined between the annular flange and the annular support.
