The invention relates to a method for testing a patient and a stand-alone medical device. The method comprises at least the following steps:- testing visual field of the patient with a first testing device comprising a perimeter device；- testing one or more second tests with a second testing device comprising a display unit comprising a display to be viewed by the patient during testing, the display unit showing elements of the second test on the display, the second tests selected from the group of:a) testing of visual acuity,b) testing of contrast sensitivity,c) testing of glare；- controlling the use of the first and second testing devices with a user interface device,- monitoring ambient lighting of the room which illuminates the first surface of the perimeter surface with ambient light sensors in order to detect if the illumination in different parts of the surface of the device is uniform and adequate.
