An apparatus for filtering bone from blood, comprising: (a) a container (302, 1302) having an open end comprising a mouth (304) of the container； and (b) a cover (202, 1202) removably attached to the container in sealing engagement with the mouth of the container； (c) wherein the apparatus further comprises, (i) a suction port (204, 1204) for suctioning liquid from the container, the suction port being configured to receive a suction tube for application of suction, (ii) a plunger (210, 1210) including, (A) a press head (216. 1216), (B) a shaft (214, 1214) that extends along the axis of the container outwardly from a top of the cover on the exterior of the container when the press head of the plunger is in an extended position, the shaft having first and second opposite ends, with the press head being located at the first end of the shaft, and (C) a handle (212, 1212) located on the second end of the shaft on the exterior of the container for manual movement of the press head through the container from the extended position toward a depressed position, (iii) a spring (1215) extending along the shaft, located between the handle and the cover, and configured such that the spring biases the press head of the plunger toward the extended position, in which extended position the press head of the plunger is located proximate the mouth of the container, and (iv) an opening (206, 1206) located proximate the mouth of the container and configured to permit air to enter the container as a result of the application of suction via the suction port； and (d) wherein the suction port extends towards a side of the container away from the axis of the container.
