PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflective multilayer configuration that can provide fan-shaped X-ray beam having a desired spectral shape of the X-ray beam for X-ray imaging application.SOLUTION: An X-ray imaging system that produces fan-shaped beams is described. The system comprises target focal spot, a target for emitting X ray, and a graded multilayer optic device in optical communication with the target. The optics transmits the source X ray to produce fan-shaped beam. The graded multilayer optic device include a first graded multilayer section for redirecting and transmitting X ray through total internal reflection.
