A miniature endoscope (10) for imaging comprising a base unit which includes a handle (16), an imaging device , an imaging channel, an annular illumination channel (34) and in which the imaging device is in the handle (16) the imaging channel (12) is optically coupled to the imaging device and has a first lens and a second lens at the distal end the annular illumination channel (34) surrounds the imaging channel to provide a probe having a diameter of 2 mm or less.
