The image processing apparatus arranges a direct-view image obtained by imaging a subject in the direct-view direction, which is the tip direction of the probe, in a circular area, and obtains an image of the subject in the side-view direction that is beside the probe. An image composition unit is provided that generates a composite image in which the obtained side-view images are arranged in a fan shape along a circular outer periphery.
