The invention relates to a composition that contains an extract of a solidago plant containing saponins. The invention is characterised in that the composition is substantially free of tannins and in that the saponins have not been subjected to alkaline lysis in the event the plant extract consists of purified saponins. The composition of the invention, which contains saponins and is substantially free of tannins, can be used in cosmetics for skin, mucous membrane, nail and/or hair hygiene or as a drug in the treatment of skin dryness and/or mucous membrane dryness, mycoses and/or oral-dental infections related to oral dryness. The invention further relates to a method for obtaining a plant extract, said extract including saponins and being substantially free of tannins.
