Aspects of the invention include methods for enhancing blood coagulation in a subject. In practicing methods according to certain embodiments, an amount of a non-anticoagulant sulfated polysaccharide (NASP) in combination with a gastrointestinal epithelial barrier permeation enhancer is orally administered to a subject in a manner sufficient to enhance blood coagulation in the subject.
