A self-contained gastrointestinal probing device comprises a capsule-like body with in-built power supply, light source, video camera, data recording and transmission unit, ambient measurements storage unit, gastrointestinal monitoring sensors, active motion mode modulation unit comprising an inertial oscillatory mechanism generating a cyclic sign-variable inertia force along a long axis of the body for the forced motion of the device along the gastrointestinal tract, and a gastrointestinal analysis controller connected to an actuator of the inertial oscillatory mechanism.
