The present invention provides an apparatus and a method for protecting an extra-high voltage transformer from wild animals. The method comprises the steps of: installing a rail around an extra-high voltage transformer, an animal repeller to move along the rail by a driving unit in the rail, and sensors to sense animals at four corners of walls, and dividing the outside of the extra-high voltage transformer into multiple sections； disposing one animal sensor having a sensing range covering the corresponding section for each of the multiple sections； moving the animal repeller to the location where the animal sensor senses an animal when the animal enters the divided section； sensing the presence or absence of the animal through an animal sensor installed on the moved animal repeller； and operating the animal repelling means when the presence of an animal is confirmed through the sensor.
