The present invention provides a monitoring device for analyzing a person's sleep state. The apparatus includes at least a first motion sensor, a second motion sensor, and a processor. The first and second motion sensors are arranged on a human eyelid and transmit an operation signal representing eye movement to the processor. The processor provides an identifier representing the sleep state from the operation signal. The apparatus may further comprise a tension sensor configured to provide a tension signal based on the muscle stretch detected in the eyelid.
