PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for collecting an obstruction in a blood vessel. A funnel catheter 104 can be placed in a convoluted configuration for delivery to a target thrombus location through a vascular structure. Once positioned, the expandable tip 112 is radially dilated to form a funnel for aspirating or collecting blood clot 106 from a blood vessel. The funnel catheter may be at least partially enclosed by an external sheath 102 for the purpose of delivery to the target site or to assist in dilation of the funnel catheter tip.
