The present invention relates to a method of inhibiting the growth or proliferation of cancer cells by contacting the cancer cells with an extracellular matrix (ECM) composition. Also provided is a method of delivering a chemotherapeutic agent to a cancer cell by contacting the cancer cell with an extracellular matrix composition containing the chemotherapeutic agent.
