The present invention provides a germicidal composition comprising a) a stabilizer selected from the group consisting of (i) acetic acid and (ii) citric acid, isocitric acid, aconitic acid and propane-1,2,3-tricarboxylic acid fair； b) introducing the germicidal composition into a heated gaseous stream to produce peracetic acid vapor； And c) contacting the peracetic acid vapor with a material to be sterilized.
