A hand held olfactory tester includes an elongated housing (12) with an opening at its forward end (30) thereof. An odorant chamber (22) located within the housing moveable axially between a forward (Fig. 4) and a backward position (Fig. 5). A wick (34) extends from the odorant chamber forwardly into a nozzle (32) carried at the forward end of the chamber. A thumb collar (24) located around the outside of the housing allows to move the odor chamber and nozzle forwardly. The forward end of the wick exposed to outside through the opening when moved forward so that vapors from the odorant can be smelled by a patient. 0-rings (40, 42) seal the nozzle from the outside when in backward position to prevent vapors from escaping. An elongated spring (28) biases the odorant chamber and nozzle backwardly into its rear sealed position when the thumb collar is released.L'invention concerne un testeur olfactif portatif, qui comprend un boîtier allongé (12) ayant une ouverture à son extrémité avant (30). Placée à l'intérieur du boîtier (12) se trouve une chambre odorante (22) pouvant se déplacer axialement entre une position avant (Fig. 4) et une position arrière (Fig. 5). Une mèche (34) s'étend de la chambre odorante vers l'avant dans une buse (32) portée à l'extrémité avant de la chambre. Un collier de pouce (24) placé autour de la partie extérieure du boîtier permet de déplacer la chambre odorante et la buse vers l'avant. L'extrémité avant de la mèche est exposée à l'extérieur à travers l'ouverture de boîtier, lorsqu'elle se déplace vers l'avant, de telle sorte que des vapeurs provenant de la chambre odorante peuvent être senties par un patient. Des joints toriques (40, 42) scellent la buse de manière étanche depuis l'extérieur lorsqu'elle est dans sa position arrière, pour empêcher des vapeurs de s'échapper. Un ressort allongé (28) sollicite la chambre odorante et la buse vers l'arrière dans sa position arrière scellée de manière étanche lorsque le collier de pouce est libéré.
