In the future, bitter gourds can be developed to as a health food, so as to prevent asthma, or alleviate the various symptoms of allergic asthma, such as airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR), airway inflammation, infiltration of inflammatory cell in lung tissue, or high level of serum IgE.本發明揭露一種山苦瓜組成物在製備改善過敏性氣喘藥物之用途，該山苦瓜組成物包括至少一有效劑量之共軛次亞麻油酸(CLN,conjugated linolenic acid)，其中將該山苦瓜組成物施用至一具有過敏性氣喘之個體，可改善該個體的症狀。未來可將山苦瓜開發成保健食品，用來預防氣喘的發生或減緩氣喘病的症狀，以改善因過敏原所引起的氣喘之症狀，包含呼吸道過度反應、呼吸道發炎、肺組織中發炎細胞的浸潤與血清中高的IgE含量等過敏症狀。
