The stent 150 of the present invention is a tubular member having a forward open end and a posterior open end and a longitudinal axis extending therebetween. The tubular member has a first small diameter for insertion into the patient and for operation through the vessel, and a second large diameter for deployment of the vessel into the target area. The tubular member is fabricated from a plurality of adjacent hoops 152 (a), 152 (b), 152 (c), 152 (d) extending between the forward end and the rearward end. The hoops include a plurality of longitudinal struts 160 and a plurality of loops 162 connecting adjacent struts. The stent further includes a plurality of bridges 170 having loop-bridge connections connecting adjacent hoops.
