The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for treating corneal damage containing 8-oxo-2-deoxyguanosine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient. More specifically, when the pharmaceutical composition is applied to a mouse model having ethanol-induced corneal damage, restoration (regeneration) of corneal epithelium is facilitated, and clarity of cornea increases compared to a control group. Thus, 8-oxo-2-deoxyguanosine can be useful for treating corneal damage.본 발명은 8-옥소-데옥시구아노신(8-oxo-2'-deoxyguanosine) 또는 이의 약학적으로 허용 가능한 염을 유효성분으로 함유하는 각막 손상 치료용 약학적 조성물에 관한 것으로, 구체적으로 에탄올 유발 각막 손상 마우스 모델에 점안하였을 때, 대조군 대비 각막 상피의 회복(재생)이 빨라지고 각막의 투명도 (clarity)가 향상됨을 최종 확인함으로써, 본 발명의 8-옥소-데옥시구아노신(8-oxo-2'-deoxyguanosine)은 각막 손상의 치료에 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.
