The patient support apparatus includes at least one chamber having at least one opening for supplying a filler, a connection unit for connecting the at least one chamber to a regulating unit, and the regulating unit for regulating a quantity of the filler within the at least one chamber. In an embodiment, the patient support apparatus has a pressure sensor for capturing a sensor value of a pressure, and a processing unit which is so designed as to compare the sensor value with a threshold value.
