High depth grayscale images, (e.g. < 8 bits per pixel) are losslessly crosschannel encoded to multi-channel imageformats for transformation and display by display devices not capable ofdisplaying high depth grayscale. DICOM and otherimages may be encoded and provided to web browser based client image viewersthat leverage native code for handling multi-channelimages. Transformations are applied to reconstitute the high depth grayscaleimages.
