Embodiments of the present disclosure include methods and compositions for the production of NKT cells effective for immunotherapy and also methods and compositions for providing therapeutically effective amounts of NKT cells to a subject in need of immunotherapy. In a particular embodiment, the NKT cells are CD62L + and are exposed to one or more co-stimulants to maintain CD62L expression.
