The present invention relates to a system for providing a light source for activating a luminescent object. In general, the system comprises a housing formed of at least two portions that are either separable or form a unitary housing depending on the embodiment. A first portion of the housing forms a light containment cavity, having at least one opening configured for receiving the luminescent object. A second portion of the housing is configured to contain a light source for providing light for activating the luminescent object. One or more light switches are located on the outside of the housing for activating the light source. In some embodiments, the opening is configured such that it can be covered by a users hand to prevent light from escaping from the light containment cavity when the light source is activated. In some embodiments, one light switch is positioned relative to the opening so that the user can cover the opening and manipulate the light switch with one hand.
