The present invention relates to plants of the family Cucurbitaceae and seeds of such plants having an androic phenotype even though this sexual type is not natural in said plants. The invention also relates to the use of the plants and plant seeds of the invention. The invention further relates to the nucleic acid sequence responsible for androxy in the plants of the invention and to the polypeptide encoded by said nucleic acid sequence.
