The present invention relates to a novel cytokine which has been designated Neutrokine-alpha (Neutrokine-alpha). In addition, an apparent splicing variant of Neutrokine-alpha has been identified and designated Neutrokine-alpha SV. In specific embodiments, the present invention provides nucleic acid molecules encoding Neutrokine-alpha and Neutrokine-alpha SV polypeptides. In additional embodiments, Neutrokine-alpha and Neutrokine-alpha SV polypeptides are also provided, as are vectors, host cells and recombinant methods for producing the same.
