Hierzu wird die Kakao frucht (1) auf einem Förderband (3) in ihrer Längsrichtung ausgerichtet, wobei auf die Kakao frucht (1) eine Druckkraft ausgeübt wird, die zu einer Verformung der Kakaofrucht (1) führt. Die Kakaofrucht (1) wird in ihrer ausgerichteten Lage längs eines Förderweges (29) an einem Messer (30, 31) vorbeigeführt, welches in die Außenschale (28) der Kakaofrucht (1) einschneidet. Die Schnitttiefe (T) des Messers (30, 31) in die Außenschale (28) ist größer als die Hälfte der Dicke (D) der Außenschale (28). Die geschnittene Kakao frucht (1) wird längs des Förderweges (29) an einem Keilelement (40, 41) vorbeigeführt, welches in die Schnittfuge des Messers (30, 31) eingreift und die Kakaofrucht (1) aufbricht.
