A pouch for an absorbent pad is disclosed. The pouch (3) comprises a sheet ofwaterproof fabric formed into a pouch shape with a base (5) and a side wall(7) that extends from the base and is inwardly turned and defines an openingto insert a pad into the pouch so that the pouch covers the back and sides ofthe pad. In use, an assembly of the pouch and the pad received in the pouchcan be positioned in a crotch region of an adult, child or baby in anoperative position of the pad and with the pouch and the skin of the personenclosing the pad and forming a barrier to leakage from the pad.
