The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating muscle disease comprising azelaic acid or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient. Azelaic acid according to the present invention can increase the expression of proteins related to muscle protein synthesis and muscle mass increase in muscle cells, and can inhibit the expression of enzymes involved in muscle protein degradation, resulting in decreased muscle function, muscle wasting, or muscle degradation. In muscle diseases caused by muscle differentiation, muscle regeneration, muscle mass can be increased through the effect of strengthening. In addition, since it can suppress muscle loss, it can be used for preventing or treating muscle diseases, muscle differentiation, muscle regeneration and muscle strengthening or muscle mass increase or muscle production promotion or muscle function improvement.본 발명은 아젤라익산(azelaic acid) 또는 이의 약학적으로 허용 가능한 염을 유효성분으로 포함하는 근육 질환 예방 또는 치료용 약학적 조성물에 관한 것이다.본 발명에 따른 아젤라익산은 근육 세포에서 근단백질 합성 및 근육량 증가와 관련된 단백질의 발현을 증가시킬 수 있고, 근 단백질 분해에 관여하는 효소의 발현을 억제할 수 있으므로 근기능 저하, 근육 소모 또는 근육 퇴화로 인한 근육 질환에 있어서 근육 분화, 근육 재생, 근육량 증가를 통해 근력 강화 효과를 나타낼 수 있다. 또한, 근육 감소를 억제할 수 있는 바, 근육 질환 예방 또는 치료용, 근육 분화, 근육 재생 및 근육 강화 또는 근육 양(muscle mass) 증가 또는 근육 생성 촉진 또는 근 기능 개선에 이용될 수 있다.
