FIELD: chemistry.SUBSTANCE: invention relates to thickening composition, characterised by viscosity from low to moderate, as well as to cosmetic preparation, which contains such composition. Thickening composition contains (a) from 0.1 to 2 wt % of certain hydrophobic denatured polyetherurethane of formulawhere each of R1, R2 and R4 independently represents alkylene group, containing from 2 to 4 carbon atoms, or phenylethylene group； R3 represents alkylene group, containing from 1 to 10 carbon atoms and optionally possessing urethane bond； R5 stands for linear, branched or secondary alkyl group, containing from 8 to 36 carbon atoms； m equals 2 to more； h equals 1 or more； k has value from 1 to 500； and n has value from 1 to 200, and (b) from 0.1 to 2 wt % of microgel, obtained by crushing gel of hydrophilic compound, possessing gel-forming ability, with ratio component (a)/component (b), having value from 0.1/0.9 to 0.9/0.1 (by weight) which has viscosity from 50 to 50000 mPa·s.
