An air delivery conduit for use in a respiratory apparatus, the heated conduit comprising: a heating system including a pair of heating wires (4d, 4e) configured to heat gas flowing through the heated conduit； and a sensing wire (4c) configured to convey a sensing voltage. A controller is configured to control the heating system and receives the sensing voltage from the sensing wire and regulates power delivered to the pair of heating wires in response to the sensing voltage. The sensing voltage is selectively indicative of a) a temperature of the gas in the air delivery conduit and b) a fault status in the heating system.
