The device has a controllable flushing pump (3) with a supply line attached to a pressure side of the flushing pump. A medical instrument (5) is provided with a drainage cannula (7) with a drainage line (8) with a pinch valve (11). A pump (9) sucks fluid from the drainage line. A pressure sensor (10) is incorporated at the drainage line in front of the pinch valve and determines pressure in a body cavity (1) when the pinch valve is closed. Another pressure sensor (12) is attached to the pressure side of the flushing pump at the supply line. The medical instrument is formed as a rinsing probe, a trocar, an optic, a rinsing cannula and a shaver.
