A method and class of circuit configurations for coupling low-frequencysignals from one stage of an electronicapparatus to another stage, from the outside world to such a stage, or fromsuch a stage to the outside world, through the use ofa plurality of symmetrical double-layer capacitors combined with otherelectronic components are disclosed. The capacitors areused for signal transmission while blocking direct current, rather than forenergy storage. Use of double-layer capacitors in placeof more conventional capacitors permits the transmission of a much wider rangeof signals with far less distortion. The technologyis particularly well-adapted to use in medical devices, includingbioelectronic stimulators, where redundant devices are required forsafety in case of single component failure while unacceptable levels ofdistortion may occur when conventional components are used.
