A wearable sensor apparatus comprises a motion sensor 3 to sense movement in two or three dimensions and orientation, and a vibration sensor 4 to sense acoustic vibrations. The apparatus can be attached to a body 31, eg using a knee brace. The apparatus may be used for assisting a human subject in rehabilitation or monitoring a maternal body for foetal movement. The motion sensor may comprise an inertial measurement unit which may comprise an accelerometer, a gyroscope or a magnetometer. The vibration sensor may comprise an acoustic pressure sensor, an accelerometer, a microphone or a piezoelectric transducer. A classification processor 35 may classify a pattern of movement or posture from the received motion and vibration signals. The classification processor may be connected to an interface module configured to provide output control signals for a motive apparatus such as a prosthetic or a robotic device.
