1. The present invention relates to an imaging arrangement providing an extended depth of focus of the imaging arrangement and comprising an imaging lens assembly (12) including: at least one ophthalmic lens (12A) for imaging visible light at a patients, eye, and at least one optical element (12B) associated with said at least one lens (12A), the optical element (12B) together with its associated lens (12A) defining a predetermined pattern formed by optically transparent phase transition regions of the optical element (12B) spaced by the regions of the lens (12A) in the imaging lens plane, wherein the optical element (12B) is a mask formed by a pattern of concentric rings (14) which form the phase transition regions, the phase transition regions and the regions of the lens differently affecting the phase of visible light passing through the imaging lens assembly (12), wherein said phase transition regions along concentric rings of said mask are pi-phase transitions and said regions between said rings are zero-phase transitions for a wavelength of ambient light for which the optical element is designed, a spatial frequency of the mask formed by the concentric rings (14) of the optical element (12B) being such that the optical element (12B) is substantially non-diffractive in respect to the wavelength of visible light passing through the imaging lens assembly (12), the optical element (12B) being configured not to add optical power to the associated lens (12A).
