A device for ophthalmic surgery having a functional element including a firstendregion and an opposing second end region, the first end region of thefunctional elementsized and shaped to be coupled to a portion of a laser system and the secondend region ofthe functional element including an applanation element to engage a portion ofa cornea.An eye-suction device is engaged to the second end region of the functionalelement andconfigured to be engaged to the eye. The eye-suction device has a bodydefining a firstfluid pathway of a first suction region, a second fluid pathway of a secondsuction region,and a third fluid passageway of a third suction region, wherein the suctionregions are influid communication with a vacuum source where: application of a partialvacuum to thefirst region fixedly secures the eye-suction device to the eye； application ofa partialvacuum to the second region fixedly secures the eye-suction device to thesecond endregion of the functional element； and application of a partial vacuum to thethird regionfixedly secures the cornea to the applanation element of the functionalelement.
