The present invention relates to an antidiabetic and anti-obesity composition including extract of Oreopanax costaricensis (OC) or a fraction thereof, as an active ingredient. The OC extract and the fraction are shown to inhibit differentiation into fat cells and glucose uptake in vitro, and are confirmed to have an antidiabetic effect after evaluating the same by OGTT (Oral glucose tolerance test) in vivo. Therefore, the composition including the OC extract or the fraction thereof as an active ingredient shows an anti-obesity and antidiabetic effect, and can be useful for preventing or treating obesity or diabetes.COPYRIGHT KIPO 2020본 발명은 오레오파낙스 코스타리센시스(OREOPANAX COSTARICENSIS, OC) 추출물 또는 이의 분획물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 항비만 및 항당뇨 조성물에 관한 것이다. 상기 OC 추출물 및 분획물은 in vitro에서 지방세포로의 분화와 당 흡수(glucose uptake)를 저해하였고, in vivo에서 OGTT(Oral glucose tolerance test) 평가결과 항당뇨 효능이 있음을 확인하였다. 따라서, 본 발명의 OC 추출물 또는 이의 분획물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 조성물은 항비만 및 항당뇨 효과를 나타내므로, 비만 또는 당뇨의 예방 또는 치료에 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.
