The invention relates to a method that consists of completely eliminating oxygen from a wine bottle once the bottle has been opened and the wine partially consumed. The oxygen is eliminated through the combustion of a combustible product inserted into the bottle, such that after the oxygen in said bottle is completely consumed, the combustible product stops burning owing to a lack of oxygen, indicating that the latter has been completely eliminated from the bottle the product is extracted and the bottle is hermetically sealed so that the remaining wine preserves the organoleptic properties thereof for a certain period of time. The combustible product can be inserted into the bottle by means of a cup (5-5) on the free end of a telescopic arm (4) or a chain (9) connected to a cork (2) for hermetically sealing the bottle (1).
