A balloon inflation/deflation system for use with an endoscope and comprising: balloon inflation functionality providing a predetermined open-loop inflation sequence； and balloon deflation functionality. The balloon inflation functionality may be operative to inflate a balloon of a balloon-equipped endoscopic device in engagement with an interior wall of a body passageway under inspection to at least one of an anchoring pressure and a slidable frictional engagement pressure.
