The present invention relates to a method using a blank for an absorbent article in the form of diaper pants in order to produce such an article. According to the invention, the method comprises the following steps: the side-edge portions of the side parts of either the rear portion (5) or front portion (4) are folded in towards the inner cover sheet (2) over supports (15 17) which have been placed on the side parts of this portion and which extend along the full length of this portion, after which the blank is folded about a transverse line (A-A) in the crotch portion (6) so that the end edges of the front portion (4) and rear portion (5) come to lie edge-to-edge and so that the side-edge portions of the folded-in portion (4) overlap the folded-in side-edge portions of the second portion (5), and thereafterthe overlapping side-edge portions of the side parts are welded together within the area of the supports (15 17) by means of ultrasonic or thermal welding.
