A laser surgical system for fragmenting lens tissue of an eye, the system comprises a pulsed laser (302) adapted to generate a pulsed laser beam; an optics module (310) adapted to direct the laser beam towards a target region in the lens tissue; wherein the system control module (320) is adapted to control the optics module to form a regular array of cells in the target region by creating layers of photodisrupted bubbles to generate cell boundaries, wherein the layers of photodisrupted bubbles are curved.
