Provided is a stent which has excellent deformation characteristics, is capable of maintaining a radial force for an extended period of time, and is bioabsorbable. Provided is a bioabsorbable stent which has a core structure comprising a magnesium alloy, characterized in that the core structure has a smooth surface formed from a magnesium alloy which contains at least 90% by mass Mg as a main component, and Zn, Zr and Mn as secondary components, does not contain aluminum or at least one type of rare earth from among Sc, Y, Dy, Sm, Ce, Gd and La, and in which the content of unavoidable impurities selected from the group comprising Fe, Ni, Co and Cu is at most equal to 30 ppm, and in that a corrosion protection layer having a hydrophilic smooth surface and having magnesium fluoride as a main component is formed on the smooth surface of the core structure comprising said magnesium alloy. Also provided is a method of manufacturing said bioabsorbable stent.
